My Life for a saree...

Ok so the Lakme Indian Fashion Week begins on the 28th of May and i am super excited. Why?
Because another aspect of my country is the vast wealth of indian culture. We celebrate all Indian Public Holidays, and Divali(festival of lights) and Phagwa are major festivals for the entire nation. With this comes of course -indian fashion. I live in a town settled by Indian immigrants, so that almost all of the stores are overflowing with silk and crepe sarees, shalwars and other items of clothing. A major Zee tv fanatic also, i have always known that more than half my wardrobe would consist of these exotic textiles. They can be worn at home, work, the film Festival at Cannes- it doesn't matter. What matters is how little most of the western world knows about this budding fashion force in the east.

Embroidery and beading are the highlight of indian designers, but most important to me is that these designers are not afraid of colour. Instead they revel in bright greens, pinks and oranges-

But texture is just as crucial, and these designers utilise the entire range of the spectrum, from the heaviest of silks(the most expensive), to the lightest of crepes- also the most expensive.

Skin is also in, but in this part of the world, skin can be shown in a very innocent and innovative way as well as in a provacative fashion, and beauty and class are not compromised because of it.

Finally, these designers do not only showcase traditional wear of their motherland, but create contemporary lines that rival the most celebrated of European designers (yes even Cavalli!)

Azeem Khan is one of my favorite designers, and is known as the 'Crystal King' and 'Czar of Embroidery' for his intricate details and stunning use of sequins, crystals and beading.

So i will update u on this upcoming fashion week, and i hope u develop a passion for this fashion force, and a space for these designers and pieces in your hearts and wardrobes.
